Why Writing Heals: Giving Feelings a Place to Land
October 1, 2026 · Roslyn Thompson
Some feelings are too big to say out loud. They sit in the chest, quiet but heavy, waiting for somewhere to go. Writing offers that place.
Expressive writing isn't about perfect sentences. It's about honesty. When we put pen to paper, we slow our thoughts down enough to see them clearly — and seeing them clearly is often the first step toward understanding them.
Try this: set a timer for ten minutes. Begin with the words "Right now, I feel…" and keep going without editing. If it becomes too much, pause, breathe, and return only if you choose to.
Healing is not a straight line. Some days the page will hold tears; other days, hope. Both belong.
Heal. Grow. Become.
